Hurtwood ltd carried out a building management system (BMS) service visit on the 3WN cleanrooms at the University of Bath. These cleanrooms have the fibre drawing towers and optical laboratories which are used for manufacturing glass fibre. Students carry out projects on fibre-optics in these laboratories so they experience reasonable footfall.
Hurtwood have been helping the university’s research facility operations department to improve the temperature and humidity control of the clean rooms. As with many other commercial buildings, the University of Bath has some BMS obsolescence to manage, for example, the controls on the clean rooms are a dated Trend IQ2 system, however, Hurtwood are assisting the University to get the best out of these older systems until their eventual upgrade by the University.

Hurtwood ltd are assisting many organisations with creating an obsolescence plan for their BMS. It was the growing problems of BMS obsolescence that spurred Hurtwood to develop its innovative range of retrofit products, achieving considerable capital cost savings. These plans also ensure that the improved controls will achieve significant energy efficiency savings which will be quantifiable immediately.

Our undergraduate trainees were able to assist with this work on site providing great exposure for the next generation of engineers.
